A Vision Rooted in Faith
In our Fall 2023 retreat, leadership and community members gathered to prayerfully discern the future of the camp. Now, as an independent ministry, we are blessed with the freedom and opportunity to invest in our facilities and mission with fresh energy and clarity.
One of the first priorities identified was addressing our water system. Recognizing that any improvements would be in vain without clean, reliable water, we completed this critical upgrade in 2024. With that foundational step behind us, we are turning our attention to the next phase of our vision: expanding family housing and creating space for retreats, conferences, and ministry gatherings.
A New Purpose for the Old Hotel
The Old Hotel has long stood as a symbol of Cherry Run’s history. Now, it is poised to become a vital part of its future. Though not originally designed for families or outside groups, the structure can be renovated to meet both of these pressing needs.
In June 2024, we officially launched our Capital Campaign to support two primary goals:
Renovation of the Old Hotel to accommodate families and host outside groups.
Purchase of campers to provide immediate, flexible lodging options for individual campers.
A Step Forward in Faith
Thanks to the generosity and involvement of our community, we have already made significant progress. In October 2024, the Capital Campaign Committee recommended that Eric Milliron and Don Shaffer lead the purchase of two campers for up to $10,000. This was approved by the board in February 2025. When an opportunity arose in June to purchase a third camper for just $1,000 more, the committee responded with overwhelming support.
As for the Old Hotel, two contractors assessed the structure in 2024 and confirmed it is sound and well worth restoring. Since then, a team of professionals has come together to help guide our renovation plans:
Architectural Drawings were generously provided by Ryan Dinger for new bathrooms and a handicap-accessible suite.
Electrical Consultation was conducted by Chip McGuire, who recommended a full rewire and a service upgrade to dual 200-amp panels.
Heating & Cooling Plans were developed with input from Dave Thomas and his supplier, proposing two gas furnaces and mini-splits for key areas.
With board approval, Steve Williams of Dayton Methodist Church has been selected to begin construction on the bathrooms and handicap suite following the 2025 summer camp season. Oversight of the entire project has been entrusted to Bud Davis (Facilities Chair), Don Shaffer, and Loren McQueen. Major milestones will be brought before the board, while routine decisions will be managed by this trusted leadership team.
